SriLankan Airlines Backs Sri Lankan Student’s ShakthiSAT Space Mission

SriLankan Airlines is supporting 18-year-old Seneesa Goonewardena, Sri Lanka’s official student representative for Mission ShakthiSAT, by sponsoring her travel to India. The global initiative will bring together young girls from 108 countries to design and build a satellite, promoting STEM education and international collaboration. Seneesa was selected through a competitive national programme involving more than 200 Sri Lankan schoolgirls. The next phase will take place at Gautam Buddha University from August 22 to 31, featuring satellite integration, leadership activities, cultural exchange and STEM programmes. The satellite is targeted for launch between September and October 2026. The airline said its support reflects its continued focus on education and youth development, while Seneesa hopes her journey will inspire more girls to explore science, technology and space.
